Being Human

So the other day at work I assisted a handicapped woman out to her truck with her groceries. Not only was it my job but I was happy to do so. My grandfather and father were disabled at the end of their lives, and I just have respect for people in general (until you do something to make me lose it for you as a person, not a group). As I was loading her stuff inside, she told me she appreciated my patience with her. While that made me feel good, I was also a bit sad. Had she faced people before who were jerks about her situation? If so, was it often? And the idea that this one woman, who I didn't know and wasn't sure was a "regular" customer (not that it matters, but they emphasize treating regs well) had faced such jerks made me angry.

People are people. I wish we could stop judging on appearances and brief observances and just be nice to each other. Yes, some people are asshats and douchebags, but aside from them, most folks are cool and sometimes legit need our help. I wish I could see the older lady using a walking chair thing to get home and offer to help her, not fearing some weirdo might appear or be her.

I did help a woman back in 2006 like this. I was going to my car in the next parking lot over from my store when I ran into this woman who had locked her keys in her car. She asked if I could drive her to her house, which was just up the street and near my grandma. Me, being 20 and naive and nice, helped her out and was rewarded with $5 for gas and time, which was not needed but appreciated. I had class coming up but helped anyway because she needed it.

But sadly the world is not so nice and simple and rewarding. I wish to help as many people as I can in my time in what ever way is available to me. I just hope that folks don't have to feel bad or be exposed to more jerks. Usually people who are sick and/or disabled are treated like shit anyway. There is no reason to make it worse.

Just live by the golden rule and don't suck and fail at being a decent human being.

World's most gullible supermarket chain falls victim to online scam

The # 1 Most Half-Assed Scam That Was Shockingly Successful from here.

Sadly, the company I work for was bought out just under a year after this happened.

Sigh. People are dumb.

Stuff

I used to think Chaffey was decently sized for being a CCC. In fact, when I first started there, I thought it was pretty big. But yesterday I was walking up from the bookstore to the north parking lot and it seemed so small all of a sudden. Guess I am ready to leave.

Also, as I was walking some boys behind me did the whole "my friend likes you" to a random girl. She was pretty much like, "I'm sure." The one being teased said he liked her hair, and again, she only said thanks and kept going. I had this happen a couple of times in junior high, and it happened to some friends as well. Some boys never grow up, ya know?

Lastly, my new ringtone is a custom made clipped version of "Dragon Soul", the DB Kai intro theme. I got inspired by this guy in my archaeology class having Navi's "Hey, listen!" as what I think was his voicemail alert tone. I did the same thing (Zelda = awesome). While I was at it, I made me a new ringtone using Wavepad and Bitpim to put it on my phone with the media cable I bought from Verizon a few years ago (yeah, I've had my phone that long).

Grrrr

Don't you just love it when other people blame their problems on you? They did something wrong, you caught them, and now they're pissed at you. This is why I love the show Parking Wars on A&E. The people of the PPA who are the main players in the show are just doing a job and making a living like everyone else in the world. Someone parks wrong or has outstanding tickets, but it's never their fault. The signs weren't clear or the computer is wrong. The best part is seriously when someone owns up and says, "You know, this sucks, but it's my fault, and I realize that. " I don't live in a city where this is too much of a problem, but I respect these people nonetheless. Just today I parked in a wrong spot while I ran inside the high school I will be doing fieldwork at. If I had gotten in trouble, I would have been mad, yes, but it was my fault.

Anyway, the people who get pissed make me laugh. What happened to personal responsibility in this country? If your kid kills himself, it was the bands the video games. If I get a ticket for running a light or parking in the wrong spot, the singnage wasn't clear. You are responsible for your actions and for looking after the people you care about, especially your children. Start owning up, you jerks.

End rant.

Side note: You know what's really good? Well, actually there's two things. This new creamer from International Delight called Marshmallow Mocha. Also, Cholula hot sauce. I bought it last night and am already a third of the way through the bottle. Random, I know.

I'm done.
